The Audience
Aspiring and experienced pilots that are eager to learn, study and ace their upcoming flight exams. Primarily, iOS device users, but have a desire to jump from device to device seamlessly.
The Problem
Design an interface that supports iOS, Android and the web on a variety of screen and device sizes. Display the complex information and features that the courses include in an understandable, and user-friendly way.







The Process
Audit
To begin, inventory was taken of what currently existed in the Sporty’s digital space. Brand misalignment was identified, as well as high traffic features and pages.
Content Grouping & Information Architecture
Similarities between content and features were identified and grouped together. Hierarchy of features were identified based on most used aspects of the application as well as business goals.
Wireframes
Wireframes were created to identify the rough structure of the pages as well as the general flow.
Low Fidelity Designs & Exploration
A variety of styles were explored on to how best translate the Sporty’s Pilot Shop brand into the digital space.
Style Guide & Componentization
Visual style was agreed upon. Style guides and reusable components were created to ensure a consistent visual experience across devices.
High Fidelity Designs
The defined visual identity was carried across all screens to bring sophistication and polish to the previously low-fidelity designs.
Development Handoff
The files were prepped for handoff to the developers. Screens were laid out by flow, assets were sliced appropriately and key callouts were noted. Developers were involved throughout the entire design process to ensure all concepts were technically feasible.
Quality Assurance
The product was reviewed and tested for bugs and visual quality. Any defects were communicated clearly to the developers and retested once resolved.
Launch
Marketing materials were prepared for the App & Google Play Stores as well as for the website launch.
